Butchertown Grocery and Rye

by JustinHammond » Mon Oct 22, 2018 9:54 am

We had two absolutely perfect meals on Saturday.

We started the day with brunch at Butchertown Grocery. The burger (Sarotto?) was fantastic; prime beef, arugula, preachers ham, Grana Padano, mostarda. The New Orleans BBQ Shrimp and Grits were perfect as always. That sauce is something special.

After stops at Garage Bar and Galaxie we had an early dinner at Rye. Every dish was great, but the sweetbreads were the standout. Perfectly crispy on the outside and tender and moist on the inside. The Little Gem Salad and Tuna Tartare were also fantastic.

tuna tartare*, calabrian chili, capers, aioli, seed cracker 16

duck fat fried sweetbread, black truffle butter, prosciutto, green apple, celery 25

little gem salad, buttermilk dressing, breadcrumbs, barbeque pecans, watermelon radish 12

These places aren't the cheapest places in town, but sometimes you get what you pay for.

Two of the best indeed. Louisville's Top Ten has quite a few new entries over the past 10 years or so! Thanks, Justin.
