Suggestions for my parents coming in town

by Will Terry » Tue Apr 17, 2018 12:58 pm

I've been out of the food loop due to young children... I have my parents coming in town next Friday and a babysitter... I want to take them somewhere that has opened recently. They are not adventurous eaters... We usually take them to Mercato, which they love (and I love).

Any suggestions? It doesn't have to be new.... just hopefully new to me! My fallbacks are Silvio's and Bourbon's Bistro...

Brand new, heard great things, not a crazy adventurous menu.

The Fat Lamb
Louvino
Sarino

None of these are crazy and they are all delicious.

In addition to those mentioned already, which are all fine, and sticking with recent arrivals, consider some new places I've really liked in the past year or so:

Lupo
Ciao
Mirin
Red Herring
bar Vetti
Tikka House
MozzaPi (open only for lunch, but wonderful)

and in New Albany, Hull & Highwater
and in Jeffersonville, Parlour

Maybe Brooklyn and the Butcher, too?

That's a great New Albany option! I don't think of it as brand-new any more, but if it fits WIll's definition, it's a definite winner.

to say their menu is not adventurous would be an understatement, a better definition of it would be boring! I haven't heard much about the restaurant one way or the other but looking at the menu I'm certainly not very enthused about it. Blu, which it replaced some excellent food and a wonderful Sunday jazz brunch which is no more.

As others have mentioned there a lot of much better choices in town that much better reflect the Louisville timing community.

It is a fun menu and place, BUT (1) it is hotel pricing, higher than most of the others listed, and (2) it's small plates primarily, which (depending how old they are!) sometimes isn't so great.

Yeah, we like that area of New Albany... This might be a great choice.

Also might just go to Silvio's... went there last night with just the wife and had a great meal.
