Xiao Long Bao in SDF?

by Brad K » Thu Jan 24, 2008 9:34 am

Are there are Shanghainese restaurants in Louisville serving Xiao Long Bao (soup dumplings) like those served at Din Tai Fung (in Taipei) and Joe's Shanghai (in NYC)?

Thanks.

Sadly, we have no Shanghainese restaurants in Louisville, although I'd love it if we could get one.

Oriental House, Red Pepper and Jasmine are the best choices for authentic menus at this point, but their chefs are from Hong Kong (Oriental House) and Sichuan. Jade Palace also for dim sum.

Here's an interesting Website to check what the local Chinese community is saying about restaurants:
Organization of Chinese-Americans of Kentucky restaurant page

Some of the listings are outdated, but they're still adding new entries - there's a Red Pepper listing now. It's fun to see how the local Chinese community views the local dining scene (both Asian and other).

That was a fun read. And they don't pull any punches. To paraphrase--

Tumbleweed is Tex-Mex for Kentucky palates.

Yeah, definitely some outdated listing there, (like the hours for dim sum at Jade Palace, it's available all day everyday now). I'd like to see more varied comments from members of the community as well. The Red Pepper listing, for example, is basically a PR piece.
