519 Gathering Table dinner April 14 in Ben Washer Park

by Robin Garr » Fri Apr 06, 2018 1:59 pm

On Saturday, April 14, from 6-8 p.m., Bridge Kids International is hosting a community dinner in Ben Washer Park featuring food from Old Louisville restaurants. The family friendly event at 519 W. Kentucky Street highlights the features and programs of the future Our Place at Ben Washer Park.

WHAT:
519 Gathering Table will showcase signature dishes donated by restaurants in and around Old Louisville. Attendees will engage with a 3D print of the Our Place at Ben Washer Park building, interact with a wellness station prototype, and through activities and games, imagine themselves as part of the Our Place community. The event will also feature music and share art and stories from The Gathering Table, an intergenerational women’s project.

WHERE:
Bridge Kids International’s global headquarters, Our Place at Ben Washer Park, is slated to begin construction this fall in the Limerick/Old Louisville neighborhood. The project will transform a deteriorating 1895 building in an underutilized pocket park into a unique community gathering place centered around youth social entrepreneurship, global citizenship, intergenerational relationships, and sustainable living. Our Place at Ben Washer Park will be the home of Our Place Café and will also feature a ThinkLab that will house the equipment, technology and, human and material resources that youth and young adults need to create their own products, start a business, or design an innovative approach to a community problem. Bridge Kids is seeking platinum WELL Building certification, fully embracing the standards that will guide the renovation and how people “live” and work in the building.

WHO
New design firm Syndicate and Metro Park are joining Bridge Kids International in sponsoring the event. Chef Nikkia Rhodes will prepare a few dishes that will be featured in Our Place Café. Chemist, entrepreneur, and educator Jerald Smith will prepare Nice Cream (liquid nitrogen ice cream) that will be on the menu at the café. Participating restaurants include Amici Café, Another Place Sandwich Shop, Buck's Restaurant, Imanka, North Lime Donuts, Pizza Donisi, Rooftop Grill, Sabor Latino and Southern Express Soul Food.

Stacy Bailey-Ndiaye, executive director of Bridge Kids International says, “Our Place at Ben Washer Park will be a powerful force for community in the Limerick neighborhood. The 519 Gathering Table is a chance for neighbors and friends to spend a fun evening stimulating their creativity in the company of good people. It’s just a taste of what you can expect every day at Our Place.”
