Oriental House has Some Critical Issues

And not something like someone working there left a soda sitting out. I hesitate to even post this, but, I'd want to know. (also, I was just thinking about going there)

The important thing to remember about those "critical violations" is that once the health department finds them, they get fixed. I'd be a lot more worried about a place with a consistent B, suggesting a slack ongoing attitude, than a place that got nabbed for some bad stuff and fixed it.

I agree. But now I've got that in my mind. (So I had to share it...kind of like if you have something that tastes so bad you want someone else to experience it!)

We always used OPC, locally, for routine maintenance. Having exterior traps near your dumpster and entrances goes a long way to preventing the problem and demonstrating to the HD that you are actively engaged in pest control. Not having anything like that gives the HD a reason to poke about more and look for issues. When you have an older building, staying on top of cracks in walls and floors and keeping any wood in good repair is a must to prevent non-paying customers from visiting. Usually when the HD tags you for pests it's because they either see one during their visit or see signs that you aren't taking any steps to control pests. A quick call to a pest control company can usually get you back in compliance pretty easily.

Here's hoping that's what they do.

I would say don't freak out unless the C sticks or like Robin says, is replaced by a consistent B. Heck I was at a Red Robin and a cock-a-roach crawled out from behind a piece of corporate artwork, and I know those guys are required to have pest control. It happens, what's important is what happens after it happens.

The Courier-Journal cafeteria used to have them running across the floor now and then, and I once looked up from my table to see one crawling on the bas-relief art on the wall next to my ear at House of Hunan. Worst case, though, was the one I saw, licking his chops, in the middle of the breakfast buffet at Shoney's.

"What will it take to make this go away?"

Roaches can come in on almost any kind of paper product . ( Like paper cups, napkins, guest checks.) If a restaurant runs out of their usual supply and has to source from someplace questionable at the last minute they can get them. Now, a rodent problem? That causes me great concern.

When I read small flies, I just figured fruit flies around the bar stuff. (so easy to happen) But as Carla said above, it was the rodents that caught my attention, and caused me to post this.

At least in my opinion that's 1 of the big problems with the inspection system here in Louisville. If they get a "C" they can request a reinspection very soon thereafter and wipe the "C" off the map. I should have to keep it for at least 6 months.
