After some 25 years in its original location on Longest Avenue near Bardstown Road, Heine Brothers’ Coffee is moving to a larger building across Bardstown Road. Heine’s will move this spring to a free-standing building in the Mid-City Mall parking lot that had previously housed Dunkin Donuts. The move, following a substantial renovation of the building, will take only a few days, according to a news release.
“Our customers have been asking for more seating and parking for a while now, so the move just makes a lot of sense,” Heine Brothers’ President Mike Mays said in the news release. “We will go from less than 800 square fee to a more comfortable 2,000. Our plan is to completely transform the building to make it blend in better with the unique feel of Bardstown Road. We’re looking at a few different designs, including the possibility of adding a locally-produced mural celebrating the Highlands and our 23+ years in the neighborhood.”
Heines’ plans to hire as many as six new baristas to staff the larger café, which will also include a drive-through window.
