Science Hill Inn is open again!

by Bill Veneman » Fri Aug 25, 2017 9:52 am

Headline edited to reflect good news at the end of this thread ...

A note on the Science Hill Inn's Facebook page this morning!

IT is with a Heavy and Hungry Heart I make this announcement on behalf of Chef Ellen Gill...
Science Hill Inn Is officially Closed, Sad but True!
Science Hill has been in the family for 40 years, lots of love, sweat and good-cooking by a Husband (Terry Gill), Wife(Donna Gill) and most recently their daughter, Chef Ellen Gill McCarty...but it's time for a fresh and tasty beginning!
Chef Ellen states, "it's bittersweet, will miss loyal customers who became friends and family, but I look forward to serving them and others in my new spot!"
Will send further details once Ellen has kicked this cancer once again!!
Ellen and The Gill Family Send Overwhelming Thanks To All who Came, Dined, Drank, Laughed and Simply Had Supported this Local Restaurant Legend!
If life's a Banquet, what's with all the Tofu?

Cheers!

We were just talking every day that we needed to get back out there again. So sorry we didn't do it before they closed, that place will surely be missed by many. Not only for the food but for the hospitality and even for the drive out there!

I heard somewhere that Wakefield-Scearce Galleries was looking for a new tenant to replace the folks who had run the Science Hill dining room for so long, but I don't remember where I heard it, and I didn't see anything on a quick pre-caffeine Google. It makes sense, though, since the gallery is home to the restaurant space, and the Gills (?) had leased it for years. The kitchen and dining room are still there, and I imagine there was no shortage of folks eager to take it over.

I don't know who is Currently running Science Hill, bu I know it is not the Gills, which means that deal Ellen is not the chef.

Does this mean the chef can only work for the Gills?

The Gills had a lease for a long time. The chef was their daughter Ellen Gill McCarthy, a graduate of the CIA, New York. Mr. Gill has passed on; Ellen is facing some seriious health issues and they decided not to renew the lease.

And so Wakefield-Scearce Gallery has arranged a lease with a new restaurateur, but the details haven't come out yet.
