Chowhound/Best BBQ

Careful - clickbait here. Spoiler: Kentucky's best is a chain (though I still think it's pretty good Q, maybe not the best in the state):

Thanks, TP, but maybe you could tell us who they chose? I'm not going to click through one state full of ads at a time until I get to Kentucky.

Sure, Robin - Martin's. Didn't want to spoil it for someone who loves lists.

There are people who love 50-page clickbait galleries? Show them to me.

Unfortunately, I agree (at least for the area around Louisville). While I would put Moonlight - and several along the TN border - way ahead, I do like Martin's best IN LOUISVILLE.

Blue Door in Lexington is the best I've had in Kentucky.

Momma's is my go-to here in Louisville.

My family and I really like City BBQ on Whittington Pkwy. We definitely thought it topped Martin's.

It wouldn't take much to be better than Martin's IMO. City certainly is pretty good although I love the burnt ends at Mamas, I really haven't found a place that I really like the brisket.

Best BBQ I've had in-state is Roy's in Russellville. Ask Stephen King, he'll vouch for it. Best pulled pork (actually, they mince it) I've had outside of North Carolina, which due to my college years being spent there became my benchmark.
As far as Louisville goes, with the sad demise of Eric Gould's Smoketown USA, I'm left with few options that excite. I agree with those who say they've yet to find a truly noteworthy brisket. I also second the recommendation of Momma's burnt ends. Perhaps my favorite BBQ item in town right now is the smoked sausage at City. Combined with their excellent sides (lots of brisket in the beans and pork in the greens), I'd rate them up there with anyone in town, although I've yet to try Martin's.

Which NC BBQ type do you favor?

Harley's Hardwoodz BBQ in Jeffersonville has incredible brisket.

Is there brisket sliced or chopped? IMO sliced is the only way to go.

Jucy's is the best brisket, hands down.

Momma's beef ribs are my favorite local BBQ, though.

It's sliced, but they'll chop it if you like. They cut it off the brisket as you order.

Hey Jay,
Not being a native Tar Heel, I wasn't burdened with purism regarding the two styles. But, since my school had semi-annual pig-pickins, my introduction was whole hog, and since I never saw the point of adding ketchup to the sauce, I'd say I definitely came down on the Eastern side of the divide. Never quite got the fascination with slaw, though. Never even heard of a slaw-dog until stumbling into a late-nite gas station one evening, but that's another story.
BTW, I see you're a neighbor!
Edited to add: I totally forgot about Jucy's and their brisket as it's been so long since I've been there. Now that you mention it, I do remember liking their brisket quite a bit. Still good as ever?
