Varanese marks 10 years with special dinners

by Robin Garr » Tue Aug 01, 2017 9:30 am

Varanese's Tenth Anniversary Celebration will be Sunday, Aug. 20, from 5-11 p.m. and will feature live music by Jeff Sherman's four-piece jazz band with special guest vocalist Gail Wynters. The event will feature half-price wine and appetizers, complimentary cake, and a sparkling-wine toast at 9 p.m. Local artist Petersen Thomas will create a large painting over the course of the evening; the finished piece will go on silent auction at Varanese through Sunday, Aug. 27, and all proceeds will benefit APRON Inc.

On Tuesday, Aug. 22 at 7 p.m., Varanese will host a five-course Retrospective Dinner featuring favorite menu items from the past 10 years. Dishes will include Curried Lamb Empanadas, Shrimp Ceviche, and Grilled Marinated Prime Rib. Chef and Owner John Varanese will speak about the restaurant's beginnings, and events of the past decade. The dinner is $40 per person; optional bourbon, wine and cocktail pairing with each course will be available for an additional charge. Reservations are required. Call 899-9904.

Hooray for Varanese! We were still Gumbo A Go-Go across the street when the garage bar went out and I was the first to say "no way can they turn that place into a fine dining place and make a real go of it." And then I watched as John built one of Louisville's top dining spots despite all of the odds. Well done.
