At least it's not another pizza restaurant!

by Mark R. » Wed Jul 26, 2017 10:34 pm

Notice today while driving through St. Matthews that the location where the Long John Silvers used to be is going to be a Top Round restaurant. Never heard of one before so I looked it up, here's their website: http://toproundroastbeef.com/the-menu/

Has anyone ever been to one before? What was their opinion? The prices seem to be a good bit higher than Arby's but if the quality is better it may be worth it.

A $5 shake? Do they put bourbon in it?

Can't remember where, but I've heard good things about this place as far as fast-food franchises go. Menu looks appealing enough.

By the way, remember when I got flamed for making up the notion that people think there are too many pizza restaurants?

Good catch, Jeff! Looks like they're running a little slower than they hoped, though. On June 30, 2015, "... plans to open four locations in Louisville, the first of which will be within a year."

I believe I read in another piece that this is the chain's first experiment with franchising. It will be interesting to see how well it succeeds.

And yeah, Robin, I remember you getting flamed for that. People do think there are too many pizza places. They're wrong, but they do think that!

Good work digging that up! Reading that article it sounds like it's an interesting concept and a concept that may justify the higher prices. The menu certainly looks good and is so large that it's overwhelming but does have enough variety to please almost everybody. We are certainly looking forward to trying it.

Their "Dirty Fries" are just poutine by another name in my book and that is FANTASTIC! I've been waiting on this place to open for a while.

Are they trashing the building? The existing building seems too small for the menu.

No, they are remodeling the existing building and actually looks like the remodeling is quite a ways along. By the looks of it I would expect them to be open by the end of the month.

Opening was announced for August 16th. Sounds a bit different, hope to hear about it.

I also noticed yesterday, a few blocks up, a place called Mission BBQ. Never seen it before -- anyone tried it? It looks like a sizable chain, in a dozen or so states, probably not my thing, but I'm curious.

I had some of their brisket on Saturday, not impressed, but I haven't been impressed with any brisket in Louisville.
