Taco Luchador St Matthews..tacky!

by Linda C » Tue Jul 18, 2017 9:49 pm

They took over the Meridian Cafe. It's small, quaint, not up to code, get that. But they ripped out big, established trees in that block. $100 bet they will tell you the trees needed to go. Not so, in St Matthews, these trees were still teenagers. Then, they paint the building white and red with huge logos in the windows. I've posted on FB and neighborhood groups. Consensus on good food, majority on horrible design, tacky building and anger at taking out the only trees in the triangle. I hope they donate trees to our city. Lots.

First off, I am in no way defending the removal of the trees!

That being said, and knowing the folks of the Ole' Group as well as I do (Fernando and his family are top notch plus a huge part of the food scene in Louisville), there must have been a viable reason to remove them.

Did you stop and ask? Usually, while the construction/remodel is going on, someone from the management team is on site to supervise...I've seen them when I've driven by.

I do understand your angst and despair over this, however, there must be a plausible reason.

I understand your frustration but I also understand business needs and code requirements. The building is now finally accessible to somebody in a wheelchair! I had tried for many years to get the Meridian Café to comply with ADA requirements and they kept finding excuses to not do it. The building is now finally accessible! I know that doesn't mean much to most of you folks but to those of us who are disabled and confined to a wheelchair it means an awful lot. I will certainly take advantage of this location.

Cut down the trees so more 'mericans can fill their gut with meat. Sounds sustainable.

I love the restaurants this group opened. That's not my beef. I'm glad for any accessibility. However, it is an eyesore in my opinion..and that of over 3 dozen people I've talked to. I tried to post a pic, didn't work. Couldn't ask about trees, they removed my question and blocked me on FB.

And what I'm trying to tell you Linda is to get all your facts before you go ranting about things you know nothing about! Get off you duff and ask them! You'll never know until you do!

St Matthews has Mellow Mushroom with a giant donut billboard, a liquor store shaped like a giant neon-lit top hat, and a pagoda-shaped Chinese restaurant. And the BBC building that was blindingly yellow and green until recently. Calling a Mexican-themed paint job "tacky" in this context is not a good look.

Bill, really. She tried to ask, and they blocked her on Facebook. That's not class, I'm sorry.

Per her own words, it sounds more like she was telling than asking, but they probably shouldn't have blocked her anyway.

That's fair. Blocking local customers really does need to be a last resort, though, and a quick finger on the trigger button doesn't feel right.
