Restaurant Bathrooms leave an impact on you?

by Solomon Gayman » Sat Jan 19, 2008 4:29 pm

Has anyone gone to a solid place to eat and the food was wonderful bur you step in the bathroom and it leaves a subtle impact on your experience. It may sound stupid but I think the small things make a big difference. Whats better than a glass fountain urinal at proof? Or the sinks at basa?

The restrooms at Asiatique are also quite fabulous.

Restrooms can certainly be used as a barometer of how clean a place is...I don't like to feel like I'm using the facilities of a bus station or a port-a-potty.

The best have real towels or very high quality paper towels. While Proof's facility is unique, it's so far from the dining area that it's a pain to get to when eatting.

I've been to many a fine dining establishment only to use the "facilities" and wonder why a fast food restaurant has a nicer and cleaner one. That being said, I dined at Cheesecake Factory the other day (someone had given me a gift card) and was pleasantly surprised at how nice the men's room was. The nicest one I've been to in this city is Jeff Ruby's. Opulent barely describes it. I wrote a review on Ruby's right before they opened. This is how I described their facilities.

The ladies room has separate bathrooms for every female guest. In the men’s room the flooring is stone tiles which work themselves about 1/3 the way up the walls. The rest of the walls are covered with $120 a yard leather. On top of an old bourbon barrel are a variety of men’s toiletries. Right next to that is an antique looking pedestal sink made of stone. No expenses were spared on this part of Ruby's establishment.
Great food along with great company is truly one of lifes best treasures.

To me, the cleanliness of the facilities always leave a mark on how I think about the place. If the restrooms are not up to standard, it makes you wonder what is going on in the kitchen and prep areas.
