Slow Food Taco Challenge June 17

by Robin Garr » Fri Jun 02, 2017 6:24 pm

The Second Annual Slow Food Taco Challenge will be held on Saturday, June 17, from noon-4 p.m. at ReSurfaced: The Liberty Build, located at 319 S. Shelby St. This sustainable culinary competition will award $1,000 in cash prizes in three categories for Best Taco, Best Vegetarian Taco, and Best Dip. All items will feature local ingredients. Admission to the event is free, and tastes will be sold for $3. All proceeds will benefit Slow Food Bluegrass’ School Garden Grant Program.

Participating restaurants include Wiltshire on Market, The Fat Lamb, Migo, The Kentucky Taco Company, Merle’s Whiskey Kitchen and Waylon’s Feed and Firehouse, with additional restaurants to be announced.

The ReSurfaced movement is meant to illustrate the economic potential and benefit of activating currently unproductive spaces while creating a more vibrant downtown. ReSurfaced: The Liberty Build will transform a currently underutilized three-quarter acre lot at the corner of East Liberty and South Shelby in the Phoenix Hill Neighborhood into a community activation space that fosters civic engagement and entrepreneurialism.

This event is sponsored by Victory Hemp Foods, Creation Gardens, The Wiltshire Pantry, Rainbow Blossom Natural Food Markets, Team Food Chain, Kentucky Select Properties, Old 502 Winery, and Coopers Craft Bourbon.
