Missed restaurants of Louisville

by Mark R. » Sat Mar 18, 2017 10:01 pm

Insider Louisville publisher story today that came from styleblueprint listing the 10 most missed restaurants in Louisville based on a survey they did. Here is a link to the story: http://insiderlouisville.com/lifestyle_ ... -the-most/

What does everybody think about the list? I'm sure that most of his agree that the majority the list is good but what restaurants do people feel is missing from the list? I know there are many.

I think this is a pretty good list. A couple I'd not been to but all of them I had rate highly on my nostalgia meter. A few more, less heavy on the fine dining side, that I really miss are:
Ray Parrella's
Tumbleweed (on Mellwood)
Lotus
Nermana's Bosnian Cafe
Pigasus
Zephyr Cove
Red Pepper
Shariat's

I had actually forgotten about Zephyr Cove. The article definitely made me think about Shariat's and also Garrett's. Everett much else of Garrett's except for the porkchops which were to die for! Fortunately Anosh in-state active in the Louisville restaurant scene and his 2 new restaurants on Brownsboro Road are excellent. I don't remember who the chef was at Zephyr Cove and to the best of my recollection Garrett's really didn't have any notable chef.

Palermo. The food was always great (Lomo) and the atmosphere was so welcoming.

Here are a few more of the lost ones that particularly hurt my heart ... Interesting that Bim Dietrich ran three of them, and two of them were in that Moorish-looking restaurant graveyard on Brownsboro.

Palermo Viejo
Brasserie Dietrich
Primo
Allo Spiedo
Red Pepper
Shariat's
Flabby's
Le Beaujolais

And places we loved back in the day that probably wouldn't seem so great in the 2100s ...
Bill Boland's/John E's
Hoe Kow

Bim also was involved with Langtry's Roadhouse (belong before it became Garrets and the restaurant was still pretty.) Great duck!

I suppose it's going back too far to mention Lil' Abner's or The Sea Queen.

John Richardson, who then went to Kentucky Cove at the Kentucky Center. And then moved to Florida later to work at a culinary school, I think.

And whose sister, Nancy, was co-owner of L&N Wine Bar with Len Stevens, both of whom also had worked at Zephyr Cove. In some ways - including the tall glass columns of infused vodka - L&N was Son Of Zephyr Cove. :)

I believe John was also an accomplished musician who played in a group called City Lights at the eponymous club on E. Washington St. in the same Main Street block where the braced facades now reside(?)

Me too! The Queen Anne! I really hated that this model failed to incubate.
