New Life for O'Malley's Corner

Interesting Business First article about Griff's, an "upscale sports bar," in this long-vacant downtown property.

Saw Darrel tonight at the Olmsted along with Denny, Luke, and Marques. UL legends. Bracketology. Dinner and basketball talk. Excited for Darrel. He had said earlier today he hadn't planned on talking about it yet. Someone jumped the gun. Could do well. Omni across the street. Don't know if he will close the UL spot.

I'm surprised that place lasted this long before being snatched given its prime location across from the Omni and convention center. It sounds like a viable concept for the building.

If he does it right, and with his name recognition, he can't go wrong. Bottom line--this is good news for our downtown.

The article says it will take $125k to renovate. I'm guessing that is a misprint or they are severely underestimating costs. 10 times that maybe?

Either way, that is good news for a blighted corner.

That's for sure, although when the Omni comes on line, they should make back their investment pretty fast!
