Sonics

by Carla G » Wed Dec 28, 2016 9:18 am

I realize this isn't big restaurant news but in my driving around throughout the Christmas holiday I noticed several Sonics closed for good. The one in Crestwood (been waiting for that. What a hole!) as well as one in Lyndon. Forget where the third one was. Is the chain going away? Restructuring? Does this signal where the fast food industry is heading?

There's the one in Springhurst, between Liquor Barn and Tinseltown. Is it still there?

Are locations franchised or corp owned?

There's a Cuban restaurant across the street (in what used to be a Taco Bell), but there's no Sonic anywhere around. The only one I know of is the one on Hurstbourne in J-Town...not sure if it's still open.

 ....Sonic.... When we were living in Oklahoma City (HQ for Sonic) you could not swing a dead cat without hitting a Sonic Drive-In. Seriously they were EVERYWHERE...I'm talking you couldn't drive more than a mile or two without seeing one. Ate there ONE time in all the time I spent there...Definitely the nastiest food I've ever had in my mouth.

Yeah, pretty bad stuff but, IMO, not as nasty as Druthers. Ugh!

Or Mickey D's or Burger King or Wendy's or any of the mega-corporate fast-food giants. :P

Service at the one in Springhurst has went straight into the toilet. We take the boy over there sometimes after/before a movie, he loves it. But we waited 30 minutes after pressing the red button (twice) for service. The button worked, the little screen confirmed that, but no one could be bothered to address us. There were 6 other cars in the lot at the time, not by any means busy on a Saturday afternoon. So we just left.

My wife has had similar experiences on three subsequent attempts to visit. The one time they actually took her order it took 45 minutes to complete the order and it was, that's right, wrong. No attempt to correct, and no recognition of the mistake.

Months before they closed the one in Crestwood they ran out of bags. They handed your food to you , wrapped in paper but no bags. I explained I would need a bag to transport several sandwiches and was handed an old French fry box.
