3rd Annual Fried Chicken Throwdown to be Held at ReSurfaced on October 29
Cooking Competition Will Benefit Slow Food Bluegrass

The 3rd Annual Fried Chicken Throwdown will be held on Saturday, October 29th from 12:00pm-4:00pm on final day of the 8 week run of the pop-up plaza ReSurfaced: The Liberty Build. This sustainably inspired culinary competition will award cash prizes of $500 to the Best Chicken, $250 for Best Side, and $250 for Best Dessert, and the winners will be selected by ballot voting amongst the attendees. Admission to the event is free, and tastes will be sold for $3 for chicken and $2 for sides and desserts. All proceeds will benefit Slow Food Bluegrass’ Garden Grant Program.

Participating restaurants include: Wiltshire on Market, PROOF on Main, Royals Hot Chicken, Milkwood, Joella’s, SET, and Flour de Lis Bakery. Last year Joella’s Hot Chicken took home the prize for Best Fried Chicken, and Wiltshire on Market took home the prizes for both Best Dessert and Best Side. Chefs are encouraged and financially incentivized to use locally sourced, sustainable chicken for this event.

The Fried Chicken Throwdown will be one of the larger events to take place at the Resurfaced lot, located at 319 S. Shelby Street, on the corner of Liberty and Shelby, which will be activated for 8 weeks, beginning Labor Day Weekend. The ReSurfaced movement is meant to illustrate the economic potential and benefit of incrementally activating currently unproductive spaces while creating a more vibrant downtown.

Chefs interested in competing can visit the signup page at http://slowfoodbluegrass.org/chefs. This competition is only open to commercial chefs. Home cooks may not compete.
