Famous Dave's

by KrisHamilton » Mon Jan 14, 2008 6:20 pm

My wife and I ate at Famous Dave's this past weekend and had yet another great meal. We each ordered the Ribs-n-meat combo and were greatly satisfied. At the end of our meal our server passed on this bit of information that we really thought was awesome.

"Beginning in February, on Tuesdays, the Feast for 2 will be $19.99, instead of the regular 29.99"

From the website (http://www.famousdaves.com/feasts.cfm) here is what the Feast for 2 would include:
    A half slab of spareribs
    A half chicken
4 oz of either Texas beef brisket or Georgia chopped pork
    coleslaw
    Famous Fries
    Wilbur Beans
    2 corn bread muffins
    2 corn-on-the-cob

This was at the Famous Dave's off of Hurstborne...not sure if any others are doing the same.

This post was to only pass on information that I was told by my server "Famous" Heather. Please do not berate the thread with the anti-chain, real or not real barbecue discussion, that sometimes accompanies innocent posts such as this one. I only intended to pass on what I feel is a great deal and from the several visits I have had a good meal. Also you may want to call ahead and verify the information before dining. I am not affiliated with Famous Dave's, other than I like to eat.

I'm glad to hear that Feat for Two special will be back. Mom and I love the Famous Dave's in Clarksville. I especially like their Sweet and Tangy sauce.

WOW! Thanks for the heads up. I love me some good Q and Famous Dave's is fine by me. It's hard to believe that huge price drop in this day and age. It seems like everything else is going up.

Lots of flavor from the bits and pieces of smoked meat .

Yes, yes, yes. They absolutely rock ass. I can only wish that I could make my baked beans anywhere nearly as good as Famous Dave's.

Look what I found. One part of the recipe really befuddles me. They speak of re-smoking the sausage, but it's already in the beans. Maybe I am just being dense. The 70's and 80's really took a toll on my brain cells. LMAO. Anyhow, hope you enjoy.

This recipe is out of the Famous Dave's cookbook that they sell at the restaurant.

8 ounces thick-slice hickory-smoked bacon
1 (8-ounce) strip steak
Famous Dave's Steak seasoning to taste
1 (8ounce) twice-smoked sausage link
2 tablespoons bacon drippings
1 cup chopped onion
1/3 cup chopped green bell pepper
1 tablespoon diced jalapeno
2 (28-ounce) cans Bush's Baked Beans
1 (20-ounce) bottle Famous Dave's BBQ sauce

Fry bacon in a skillet until crisp. Drain, reserving 2 tablespoons of the drippings. Crumble the bacon. Sprinkle steak with steak seasoning. Grill over hot coals until medium. Cut into 1/2 inch cubes. Grill sausage until nice and charred. Slice the sausage lengthwise into halves; slice into quarters. Cut the quarters into 1/2 inch cubes. Sauté onion, green pepper and jalapeno in reserved bacon dripping in a skillet just until onion is tender-crisp. Stir in bacon, steak, sausage, beans and sauce. Simmer over low heat for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. The flavor is enhanced if stored, covered, in the refrigerator for 8 to 10 hours and reheated just before serving. To resmoke sausage, smoke over hickory chips at 175 degrees for 2 hours. Grill over hot coals for additional flavor. Yield: 12 to 15 servings.

I found this pic on their website. Check out that big bowl of baked beans. Now I am having to wipe off my keyboard.

The only complaint I have with the place is that their desserts suck. I'm not big on bread pudding anyways, and their hot fudge contraption I found to be bitter. I rarely bother calling in to get a free dessert.

I thought about it long and hard, and I appreciate the disclaimer of innocence.

I'm not berating the thread. I'm merely providing an alternative point of view. It often is the case that there is a high cost to low price. My job is to gently point this out.

I'd guess that Famous Dave's and Bud Light go together like television and advertising.

Famous Dave's is the best chain restaurant in town, as far as I'm concerned. I usually get something to go so I can enjoy the beer of my choice at home.

By chain I mean national chain, not a local place that has two or three locations, by the way.

You MUST try the Salmon Spread at Dave's! Damn, I could make a meal out of that stuff. Cream cheese with salmon and a little heat (not too much) served with grilled flatbread that warm and perfectly seasoned.

Oh, yummmm!
