National Oyster Day Aug. 5 at River House and Levee

by Robin Garr » Thu Jul 21, 2016 1:09 pm

River House Restaurant and Raw Bar and Levee at the River House will celebrate National Oyster Day on Friday, Aug. 5. River House will serve $1 Chesapeake oysters from 11 a.m.-4 p.m., and Chef John Varanese will conduct an educational demo about oysters at the Raw Bar at 11 a.m., noon and 1 p.m. Both River House and Levee will offer a special on New Zealand Oyster Bay Sauvignon Blanc for $7 a glass.

In addition, Levee is offering the public a chance to taste three new oyster recipes created by Chef Varanese and vote on their favorite one, with the winning dish being added to the Levee menu for the rest of August. The oyster tasting is $9 per person, and is available now through Aug. 5. Votes can also be submitted through the River House/ Levee website, on the Levee Facebook page, and in person at Levee at the River House.

The three oyster dishes in contention are:
- The Rocker: Oyster baked on the half shell with crab, spinach, artichoke and Tasso ham
- The Shooter: Spicy garden gazpacho oyster shooter
- The Snacker: Crispy cornmeal fried oysters with cheddar grits and country ham, finished with a sage beurre blanc
