Coconut Beach

by Mike D » Sun Jun 26, 2016 12:16 pm

I love this place! We went there again last night with my wife's brother. Everything was outstanding - the salsa provided with chips, the guacamole app, the barbacoa mole burrito, the chicken enchiladas and the fish tacos. The three house-made salsas provided with dinner (arbol, verde and habanero) are always fresh. The mojito and margarita were excellent. And the beer was cold.

We continue to be puzzled (and concerned) by the fact that there are seldom many customers. Last night at 7:00 there were maybe three tables. My brother-in-law asked our server and he said it's very unpredictable - last Saturday they were slammed and lunch business was good all week. It strikes me as a tough location.

This place remains on our short list of places that we think about when we leave the neighborhood..

It's Fernando's little-known place. 2787 S Floyd Street, perhaps positioned for Papa John's Stadium fans. Open since about 2013, but it has no website, no real Facebook page, and none of the usual suspects, including me, have ever reviewed it. It's a Bermuda Triangle of restaurants, and now that you mention it, I'm really curious. It must be a success, because Fernando, but maybe they just push it when there's a game?

Robin, I have wondered the same thing.....I'm sure they do gangbusters business on football game days, but that's only six days a year. I didn't realize it had been around so long. We just found it about six months ago. I can't imagine it would still be in business if it wasn't at least marginally profitable?

I don't think Ole Group is still connected to Coconut Beach.

We go to Coconut Beach pretty regularly. The tacos and tortas seem to be identical to the ones at Luchador. A solid place, we've often found it to be surprisingly empty, too.
