Pizza

by Michelle R. » Fri Jan 11, 2008 1:48 pm

Ok, I've seen several other threads on Pizza, but can't recall if I've seen one on the best places in Louisville to go for Pizza. I'm starting a low carb lifestyle on Monday, and therefore, pizza will be off limits for a while. So, if you could eat at ONE pizza place in Louisville, where would it be?

Robin, please forgive me if I'm duplicating any earlier threads!

No harm in that! :D

There are so many great pizza places, though, it's really hard to pick just one.

I'd say Original Impellizzeri on Bardstown Road if you want the ultimate Louisville-style pizza experience, or Hero's in J'town if you want as close as you can get in Louisville to a NYC neighborhood-style pizzeria (not just a walk-in by-the-slice joint); of Windy City for a friendly South End neighborhood experience and choice of thick or thin Chicago-style pizza. Boombozz makes lovable pizza, but most of their places aren't long on atmosphere. I'm looking forward to trying the new one way out past J'town, though. Primo makes a real, authentic Italian pizza that's perhaps my favorite, but Primo isn't just a pizza joint, and you're missing out if you just go there for a pie.

But there are just so many! I'm kind of over Clifton's and Wick's, but they have their fans. So do Za's and Jockamo's and many, many more.

Since getting back to Louisville in June I've been trying to hit as many as my old favorite pizza places and new ones as well. I haven't hit all of them yet but thus far, without question, my favorite is Imepllizerri's.

Robin, we just hit the one waaay out past J-town last weekend. The food was great, and it was PACKED.

Thank you everyone for your fantastic suggestions! Keep em coming! ;)

I think Primo's makes an outstanding pizza but it's definitely a more Italian-style pizza. The flavors are outstanding and the thin crust stands up to the toppings.

I've been to Za's and Impellizeri's. In my opinion, the crust we had a Za's didn't stand up to all of the cheese (but I did like the crust). Impellizeri's was a little doughy for me but the sauce was tasty and the cheese was good.

I think that my problem is that I'm probably partial to a more traditional Italian pizza or a NY style pie.

I'll jump on the RichO's bandwagon. My wife and I learned about NABC through Roger's blog about a year ago -- haven't stopped going since. It's a haul from Fern Creek, but there's no better. We get the large Roundhouse with a great variety of toppings, just so we have some to take home for lunch the next day.

I've already said this in other posts, but Hero's is pretty darn close to perfect for this transplanted NY girl! That place never fails to make Mike & me happy and everyone there makes us feel right at home! Now, that being said, I'm curious about the place out WAAAAAY past J'town. Where exactly is it & what's the name? Many thanks!!
