a tale of two..."sunbeams"...

by Willie Myers » Sun Jun 12, 2016 9:56 am

After reading all of the comments in the River House thread - and, in particular, the frequent references to the "views" , an ironic happenstance last evening leads me to share the following.

Our neighborhood group of 10 had booked in to the River House on a Saturday night a couple of months ago for 7:00pm dinner. The place was - as you might expect - packed. We were promptly seated and got cocktails, but by the time we were about to place our dinner orders, a major problem...the sun.
It had dropped low in the western sky and was beaming - no, make that *screaming* - directly through those large windows in to the faces of a number of our group - and adjacent tables, as well.
We asked if the blinds could be lowered, only to find that no blinds had been installed. And when the manger finally made his way to our table, all we got was an explanation that nothing could be done and perhaps we could come back another evening, if we chose. Perhaps we should have...chosen.
We shifted our diners around a bit - women had their backs to the sun, we men gutted it out (!), and had our dinners. And left thinking this is one place to which we would not return.

Then....last night......

We did "neighbors' night out" at Bonefish. First time there for many of us. And the place was packed.
Shortly after receiving our initial cocktail round......guess what happened!!
You got it.....setting sun, take two!
But *THIS* time, before we even had an opportunity to raise the alarm, we saw someone going to the glass doors and taping a large piece of paper on the glass, blocking the incoming rays! And then, he came over to our table to apologise for the inconvenience. He introduced himself as Chuck, the managing partner. And of course, we told him the story of River House and how much we appreciated his being pro-active in dealing with the problem.

So, bottom line, exactly the same situ at two different places with two diffrerent outcomes. BTW, we all had wonderful meals at Bonefish and we'll all look forward to returning.

But River House? People talk to people talk to people and I wonder if they have any idea - ro care - how much business they've lost by the way that they handled the situation....
