Flat wallet, round tummy? Try these great cheap eats
(Tacos La Rosita, Oak Street Pizza, breakfast menu at Meridian Cafe)

Okay, we're into 2008 now. The holidays are over. Your wallet is flat but your tummy is not. Fine dining and wretched excess are not in the picture, but we're not really ready for a diet of raw carrots and soda water.

Let's scout out some great cheap eats, the kind of fare that offers a quick and tasty meal that may not be diet food but isn't a multi-course banquet, either.

To celebrate the New Year (if in fact there's much to celebrate about a bleak Ohio Valley January), let's take a quick look at a potpourri of recent quick and affordable discoveries on the local dining scene.

Got a pie and some garlic knots from Oak Street Pizza tonight. Pizza was as Robin described, thin crust, herby sauce, but not too much, nice toppings. We had pepperoni, mushrooms, onions (choice of white or red) and artichokes. The garlic knots were good, lots of garlic butter and a small tub of the sauce. Will go back soon to check out the Sicilian pizza, subs and salads. Very friendly owner, says he learned his craft in the Northeast. We walked in to order, so I got to see the care he took with the pies. They deliver, so we have a much better option than the Domino's-pizza-hut-pappa-johns for those nights we don't want to go out. This is a real asset to Old Louisville!! :D

No Minimum Order.

No Delivery Fee.

No Maximum Range.

All we ask is a good tip, and to spread the word.

Would you seriously deliver all the way out to practically Oldham County? And how would the pizza fare that far away from being baked?

Like I said, no range. A delivery there with no tip would suck, but thats not to say we would turn it down. The pizza would last around 40 minutes in our thermal bags, depending how far it is, it should still be hot and fresh. Hope to hear from you, just mention youre the oldham county from the forum when you call.

Casey, that is just awesome. I thought that I'd have to wait longer to get down to your location and pick up a pie. However, if you'll take a pizza to Oldham Co., then you'll sure deliver to my neck of the woods...Bowman Field / Hikes Point area. I probably place an order this week...and no worries, I'll take care of the driver w/ a nice tip.

I really appreciate your responsiveness and attention to the customer...quite refreshing!

Do you have a website? Is the menu for Oak Street Pizza online anywhere?

Thanks. DD
