I'd say not to put too fine a point on it, they're the most smartly marketed this week. Duration and quality don't necessarily factor into that.

There are many these flyby reviews of restaurants making lists of the greatest something or another. In many cases the person who wrote the article have never even visited some or all of the restaurants on the list. They only depend on reading local reviews from various sources including Yelp in many cases. These lists probably mean something to people who never been to any of the Louisville restaurants before but those of us who live here certainly know what restaurants are the best (at least in our opinion) and have learned to ignore these type of list.

Articles like this are good for a laugh but not much else!

I think Mark nailed it. The monetization of the Internet has given us a new genre of publication that's run on the cheap, with free-lancers paid very little to do quick fly-bys to generate an article that can be promoted by clickbait to maximize ad exposures. Thrillist is a typical example; there's a ton of others, from Movoto to the short-lived local Eater. If we believe that any publicity is good publicity as long as they spell your name right, and it probably is. But it's easy for anyone with even a little local knowledge to poke holes in these listicles.

I think the article is misnamed... Almost all of those restaurants were relatively new, so it should be "18 new places to try in Louisville." I appreciate that they had some restaurants I wasn't familiar with on the list, and I may try some of them. But the 18 best, in Louisville? I can't say it's not true since I haven't gone to all 18 yet. But I have a hard time believing there are 18 restaurants better than ... just off the top of my head... Jack Fry's, Volare, Bourbon's Bistro, Jeff Ruby's...
