Le Moo makes Food Network's Top 25 steak houses

by Robin Garr » Fri Mar 25, 2016 6:25 pm

You've got to page through a lot of gallery to get to it, but it's there. Quite an honor for a still-new Louisville spot.

Yes, quite an honor indeed. I'm sure it's a great place but I just can't seem to get past the really goofy name...

I certainly agree with that sentiment. In addition I don't believe I'll every end up going there because of the treatment we received a couple of times while visiting the Village Anchor.

Went with a party of eight. Service was good. Two steaks had to be sent back because not cooked properly. Out of two items we tried to order. Food other than steaks just ok. Not top flight. Steaks good but not great according to those who ordered them.

I certainly wouldn't consider it to be anywhere near top of the Louisville steakhouses much less nationally. Might have potential, but not there at this time.

You know, this is what always strikes me about his places. His former career was in PR, and apparently, he was quite good at it. Whenever I see positive press on his establishments, I attribute it more to expertise in the former career rather than in the current one. Maybe I'm just cynical. I've been to LeM only once and solely to check out the remodeled venue. That was at the bar and with no food. A revisit is in order, I guess.

Cast Iron. The one on River Road? We have never stopped in there and it's been there awhile. Heard others who like it. Will put it on our to do list. Thanks. Ellen

Honestly, I've heard a lot of people dismiss it as "meh." The only two people I know who've praised it have been Bill V and the CJ reviewer.

But seriously, maybe it got better. Don't stay away on my account.

Cast Iron's got their niche- an affordable steakhouse in the middle of Prospect. Meat and potatoes.

I had a good experience there. We ordered take-out on a Sunday at 6:30- for eight people. When I got there, the place was packed. I thought there would be no-way they'd get the order right. There'd have to be some kind of hiccup. They were perfect to the tee- not even a bungled steak temperature.

There wasn't a seat open at the bar, yet the bartender took care of my transaction and had me out the door quickly. That was helpful, as my brother-in-law was waiting outside, unparked because there were no parking spots left.

I would go back in a second. It's not fancy food or super-prime steaks, but they do it well at a nice price point.

I have not made it to Le Moo yet but on the Cast Iron front- I like it. Very reasonably priced. Nothing fancy but very good. And it is quiet. Even when busy, I was impressed that it was comfortably peaceful.

Bonus points for the sound level.

I too will dog pile on the positive side for Cast Iron. It's pretty simple and straight forward but has consistently produced a great experience. And I'll add that their service has always been top notch. I usually save it for one of my "meat days" since there aren't many veggie options there but then I wouldn't expect there to be in a steak house anyway.

*raises hand*

Another fan of Cast Iron here. Great service, good food (the sauteed spinach is to die for), their ribeye could bring me to tears, and it's a comfortable setting.
