Poll: City's best Irish for St. Pat's Day

by Robin Garr » Sat Mar 12, 2016 11:13 am

St. Patrick’s Day is coming up, and the wearin’ o’ the green (and the drinkin’ o’ the green beer) will be happening. Let’s take a quick poll and see if we can achieve a concensus about the city’s best “Irish” spots. (I’m defining this broadly, including both eateries and watering holes, and a few that are only marginally Irish ... Pat’s, for example, makes it on the basis of green decor and a shamrock logo. :)

Even if you don’t claim Irish heritage (I certainly don’t), you can still get in on the fun. Name your favorites from this alphabetical list - you may choose two if you wish - and let’s see whose corned beef and cabbage reigns supreme.

Irish Rover
Molly Malone’s (Baxter)
Molly Malone’s (St. Matthews)
O'Connell's Irish Pub
O’Shea’s Irish Pub (Baxter)

Patrick O’Shea’s (Downtown)

It looks like everyone that have posted so far is deftly looking at it from the food perspective instead of the watering hole perspective considering every vote and have been cast so far is for the Irish Rover! That's basically what I expected.

I'm also surprised that a lot of people are viewing this poll, but only a few are voting, and nobody (until you, Mark!) is saying anything. Odd. I thought St. Paddy's was a big deal in Louisville, but I don't have a drop of Irish in me, so what do I know?

I didn't vote because you didn't list "home" as an option. :D

Were I into St. Pat's, I'd vote for whichever bar is closest so that I could walk/stagger home without hurting anyone (except myself).

There's really only one answer to this question and as of now 75% of voters seem to know that...

Yeah, but my home isn't an "Irish spot" so I didn't feel that it qualified!

Thousands at the parade today, plenty of green flowing on B'town Road, so it is still a big deal for some people.
