The Seafood Lady

by Mark R. » Thu Feb 04, 2016 12:28 am

Her new restaurant on Oak Street got a lot of love tonight on WAVE 3 news. Here's the story: http://www.wave3.com/story/31135442/new ... build-fans and here's her Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/seafoodlady502/

After seeing the pictures I certainly have a major hankering to have some seafood!

Am I the only one who HATES that some restaurants/food trucks only have a Facebook page? And the fact that they're inconsistent (some have menus, some don't, some have hours, some don't)???? It frustrates me to no end. Rant over.

Does anyone know her hours? The pictures are absolutely drool-worthy and I'd love to check it out!

Thanks for posting!

Joni, I'm glad that your questions unanswered by Suzi. I certainly share your frustration about not be able to find the information you want before going to a restaurant. In ways I can understand not having the menu online because many restaurants change it quite often as I didn't keep it perfect people would complain about that. I can't understand at all however why they don't at least post their hours, location, phone number and other basic facts like that in a readily accessible place.

You are not alone. I've ranted about this in this forum time and time again. I chalk it up to advertising ignorance and people assuming that a FB is fine since it's free. Then I see fine little places go out of business because nobody patronized it. Not everybody selects a dining experience based on the same criteria as everybody else. I've yet to see ANY restaurant FB page that was of any use except to gush to their already existing patrons but doing nothing to help generate new business.
And now MY rant is over too.

That's kind of the trick isn't it? The majority of people who see your FB page have already liked your page and are (hopefully) visiting it on a regular basis, hence the gushing to existing patrons. The only way to use FB to generate new business is to sponsor ads or boost posts and hope that people pay attention to them in the side columns or in a friend's feed who already follow your page. Otherwise you are just left to hope that someone looking for your business searches for it on facebook. How often than happens, I don't know.

FB is a GREAT tool for building customer loyalty and informing your customers about upcoming specials and events.
FB is weak for drumming up new business.

BUT I agree that keeping your page well maintained and having all vital information posted is a MUST regardless of what your FB goals are. It would be like only putting up half a sign outside your building, or only printing half your phone number on your menu.

I tired to go Friday for, lunch but the line was way too long. A guy in line said that he had been there before and the line was out the door and down the street. I guess the Facebook thing is working.

Not necessarily. I'd be more inclined to think the WAVE 3 television coverage had something to do with that. 8)

Considering she gets 500+ Likes on a picture of some shrimp and waffles, and has 21,000 instagram followers, I don't think she's going out of business with or without a website.

While I also prefer a webpage, if the food is good enough and has ample demand, I won't hold it against them for carving a different route. It just means that it will take someone like myself, who isn't following anyone on instagram, a bit longer to check out the place.

Been following this lady on social media for a few months waiting for the hype/crowds to die down...doesn't look like it's going to -- only getting bigger.

Her Instagram is pure Food Porn. .

Great pictures! Now add days and hours of operation unless she has time to field phone calls all day.

We first visited visited the Seafood Lady about 6 - 8 months ago when she was still serving out of her her home and even then we had about a 30 minute wait, despite calling and ordering ahead of time. I have to give her credit - she had a large and loyal following before ever appearing on WAVE and it was all through social media and word of mouth. Anyone who can go from their home to a food truck to a bricks and mortar restaurant in just a year's time must be doing something right. I haven't returned mainly because I'm not a fan of waiting til forever to get my food but her business model shows that I'm obviously in the minority!
