Where can I buy country ham?

by isaac.schrader » Mon Jan 04, 2016 11:13 pm

I'm not looking for the re-hydrated and baked deli-style country ham. I'm hoping to find a place that sells really thin slices of a dry ham. Like how Garage Bar does it. Basically Kentucky prosciutto. I have found whole dry-aged hams at Valu Market, but I don't need a whole ham. I just want some for snacking with cheese and crackers. Thanks for any help!

I'd try calling Butcher's Best in Prospect. I'm not sure if he has it or not but I sure bet he could point you in the right direction!

Morris Deli will get you in the right direction. They I think they sell Father's from Gatton Farms

While I totally adore and respect Dan, and Butcher's Best is the only butcher shop that I am aware of in East Lousiville, when I need or want country ham I go to Finchville Farms Country Ham in Finchville, KY. It is as heavily smoked/salted at Newcomb's. For me, personally, I think Father's is a bit heavy on the salt.

The Cheddar Box in St. Matthews. We sell Finchville Farms ham and will be happy to slice as little or as much as you want.

Gayle hit it on the head, I've not had much better country ham than that from Finchville Farms.

Awesome! Thanks for the help, everyone. I'm going to try each place later in the week.

Isaac,
Welcome to the Forum!
I'm with Dan on Morris' Deli ( Sign says Karem) and their Fathers. I used to drive cross town every year to get it for my country ham biscuits and spread, but I moved- now I can walk there .

Lotsa Pasta has meacham baked ham. It is very good too.
They can slice it thin & you can compare with imported italian prosciutto they have as well.
