Hot Chicken???

I want an honest opinion from some forumites that know. Is it worth the high prices being charged to go and try the latest hot chicken places? We regularly get what I consider spicy chicken at our local 3rd St Indi's. I absolutely love what we get there. I met the owner recently and he just laughed when I asked him to tell me what the hot spice was! (I didn't expect him to reveal his secret). But I've seen the prices of the "boutique" hot chicken places and I am hesitant. Am I wrong??

I've been to Joellas twice. My husband got the hot, it was over my threshold (which is low) my first order was dark meat. It was pretty small, IMO, and the underside had a pool of grease and was soggy. The second attempt was better, no bigger. The sides were the best part, but honestly I had some fried chicken on a buffet in Madisonville which blew this out of the water!

If you have a place that you already love, no reason to change, imo. We've been to Joella's many times and myself and two kids (they split a plate) eat for just under $20 (more if we get soft drinks), which is a bargain in our no-fast-food world. We spent more than that on carryout at Boombozz last night -- hey, Tony is taking all of my money! As for Joella's, I don't think there is anything magical about their sauces, but all of the levels that I've tried are quite tasty.
