Fund-raiser for France, Nov. 29 at Roux

Roux wrote:Roux has partnered with UofL Modern and Classical Languages Department, as well as Sister Cities of Louisville, to hold a fundraiser for French relief on November 29th. We wanted to bring the community together for an event where solidarity could insight change. Proceeds will be donated to Friends of Fondation de France, which is the largest French aid organization that will readily accept U.S. currency, and also insure that 100% of our donation will stay with French aid. A $10 door charge will give you access to the party's appetizers and music. We will be holding a charity raffle, with all proceeds being donated. We will also be continuing to collect proceeds from our sales of our house cocktail, the French 75. Cash donations of any size will also be accepted throughout the evening. This will be an evening fueled by the love of good music, food, drink, and friends! Come join us, as we show Paris that Louisville cares!

Nice gesture. Now, how about some more sustained showing "Louisvlle cares" by supporting the above mentioned organizations and the Alliance Francaise de Louisville on a regular basis. These entities nurture the Louisville-France (and francophone world) connection all year round. More fundraising collaborations such as Beaujolais Nouveau, Fete de la Musique, Bastille Day , etc. between local retaurants and these organizations will help sustain and grow the connections, and in turn demonstrate a more authentic reaching out to France than just a one time event.

Great idea, James. Another way to stay connected is to join Sister Cities of Louisville http://www.sclou.org
They are also sponsoring a Giving Tuesday campaign. One of the campaigns mission is to collect coats and blankets for Syrian Refugees in Turkey. Turkey has taken in over 2 million refugees.
