Frankfort KY - Rick's White Light Diner

by Joel F » Sun Nov 22, 2015 8:35 pm

At White Light Diner, Chef Rick Paul serves up ‘dinner and a show’

- Food Network’s Guy Fieri made tiny diner a tourist destination

-A Culinary Institute grad and Frankfort’s ‘most colorful character’

- Everything is made in-house with local ingredients, fresh seafood

Good destination, or I'm glad to hear it still is. I did a HotBytes piece on it in 2011, at which point Guy had already been there, but wasn't really getting credit for making it famous at that point. ;)

I love this place! Rick is certainly opinionated, and doesn't hesitate to tell you "what he really feels" about virtually everything! This includes food . . . he only serves med-rare burgers, as that's the way they are best (similar for everything). If you go, you must have his burboun pecan cocolate chip pie (he'll tell you about the several lawsuits he lost to Kern's Kitchen), topped with a spritz of bourbon (one for him, one for your pie!).

Just one key recommendation: go to the bathroom before you go, especially if it's winter or raining. The place dates back MANY years, and the bathrooms are an outside flight down adjacent to the river below.

Used to be a steep, scary inside flight down. Did they renovate?

DK. When we were there, no visible stairs inside, and outside was a sign pointing down at a flimsy-looking staircase saying "restrooms". There may well be an indoor stairs also, but we didn't ask!
