Informal lunch caterer for 75?

by Robin Garr » Wed Nov 04, 2015 4:35 pm

Who do you folks recommend for catering a meal in a client's home, a firm that's competent, reliable, able to handle a crowd of 75 without getting in the weeds, and reasonably priced for what it is? Impossible dream, or tons of good candidates?

Any of the major downtown hotels can handle that easily (Marriott, Seelbach, Brown, Hyatt); not sure how you would define "reasonably priced" however!

Mark's barbecue does a nice catering job for groups that size, you can select what meat and what sides you want and of course you can get there really good pie for dessert. I forget the exact cost per person but it's quite reasonable. I'm sure some of the other barbecue places can also hook you up. I also know that Selena's does group catering, I know the actually did quite a bit for the U of L football team when they were having the twice a day preseason training. Again they can do about anything you like from the menu and especially things like gumbo or jambalaya would work very well. Probably a little more expensive than the barbecue option but certainly worth asking about.

I may not have expressed clearly, Andrew, that this is in-home catering for a party, not a meal in a restaurant space. Possibly the hotels do that, but I think I may have failed to communicate.

Food trucks can come to your house, park in your driveway, and make it a party!

I think these folks have something a little more elegant in mind, with a buffet setup and dishware. 8)

I can highly recommend Teri Lynn's Catering. http://www.terrilynnscatering.com/ I have used them probably 50 times without a hiccup for groups this size. They are professional, can accommodate dietary restrictions and are *always* on time. Their menu is diverse and the food is truly delicious...and I'm a picky girl. They have prices on their website and they can do a full set up with linens, china and silver or just disposables. They aren't the cheapest, but they are the best I think, and I've tried several.

Ding ding ding! I think we may have a winnah! Thanks, Mary Anne. This sounds exactly like what my friend is looking for.

My mistake . . .

Have you talked to the Bristol? We've been to events that size that they have catered, and the food/service/et al (dishes, silver, etc) were great . . . I'd never have believed it was the Bristol, as the menu served bore no relationship to what they offer in the restaurant!

I agree ... I mentioned the Bristol to the friend who's looking for info, but was also interested in what else the group mind could come up with. :)

I'm sure you've already considered Wiltshire - just throwing them in the mix as I've been to a dozen things in recent years that they've done and always a nice job.

All of the above are wonderful options! However, I've been known to handle an on premise dinner of this size at least once or twice and can pretty much work within any budget!
