Downtown eatery suggestions?

by becky.cady » Wed Oct 14, 2015 12:16 pm

Hello!

I have a friend who will be in town next month for a convention, and I am trying to help her figure out some places to try for food. She'd prefer something local, not a chain or anything. Things around the convention center are good. I don't get out much. I know we can google/yelp, but I trust Robin's opinion, and he suggested I post here, to look for suggestions :)

Thanks in advance!

Price range?

The new Mussels & Burger Bar across from 21C is great, and for sushi Hiko-a-Mon just South of 4th Street Live both good . . . slightly farther, but Doc Crow's, Milkwood worthwhile, and Manny & Merle's fun . . . for lower price try Bistro 301, or for a step up from standard lunch place try Dish. Proof in 21C always good, but pricier, although art galleries in 21C worth the trip (or go to Mussels & Burger, then walk across the street)

Justin and Andrew already covered most of the ones I was going to suggest. There obviously are many others that are also quite good downtown but those all would be on the top of my list. Do you know what hotel she's going to be staying at? That might help with localized some other choices for her. For instance 8-Up is a great choice depending on where she's staying.

I think she is staying at the Hyatt Regency on 4th street.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far, I had already told her some of them, but I don't get out much, so I didn't know if my suggestions were good or not.

I don't think price is too much of an issue, I think she can expense the stuff for work.

Just a short Uber away are Wiltshire, Rye and Harvest- three of my favorites, though I heartily endorse the other places mentioned.

Since you mentioned she's on a expense account and not worried about cost she might enjoy an elegant meal at either the English Grille or the Oakroom. I'm not sure what kind of meals she enjoys but both of those have very good food and our lovely setting with great service.

Safier on 4th street (a short walk from the Hyatt) is my most favorite (and cheap!) Mediterranean restaurant in town.

Welcome to the forum, Stacey, and thanks for joining the conversation. I agree, Safier is legit. If I were on that block and didn't want the more upscale experience of Marketplace, Safier would probably be my next choice.
