Restaurants Compete for "Top Hog" at Butchertown Porktoberfest

Butchertown Porktoberfest will be held at Copper and Kings, 1111 E. Washington St., on Friday, Oct. 9 from 5-10 p.m. This pork inspired culinary competition will feature live music by Relic, local brew from Apocalypse Brew Works, cocktails from Copper & Kings, and food from local restaurants. (Vegetarian options also available.) Admission is $2 and covers your first taste, and all proceeds from food/beverage tickets will benefit the Butchertown Neighborhood Association Inc. Event will be held rain or shine.

Attendees will have the opportunity to sample food from several local spots that have not yet opened their doors, including Royal's Hot Chicken, Red Hog Tapas and Commonwealth Cured. Other participating restaurants include Feast, Toonerville Deli, Gralehaus, Rye, Galaxie, and Wiltshire.

Cash prize will be awarded to the winners of the five categories: People's Choice, Best Overall Pork, Best Vegetarian, Most Creative, and Best Dessert. The Best Overall Pork category will be selected based on taste, presentation and originality by a panel of judges, and the "People's Choice," "Best Vegetarian," "Most Creative" and "Best Dessert" will be awarded by the attendees. In addition to the cash, all winners will receive a Porktoberfest Trophy.

Winners of the 2014 event were: Best Overall Pork - People's Choice - Gralehaus, Most Creative - Feast, Best Dessert - Feast, Best Vegetarian - Wiltshire, and Best Pork - Holy Grale.

The 2015 Butchertown Porktoberfest is sponsored by the participating restaurants, as well as the White Clay, The Eye Care Institute, The Butchertown Grocery, and the Butchertown Neighborhood Association.
