Just saw this on their FB. https://www.facebook.com/Don-Juan-Birri ... ?ref=br_tf
We absolutely loved the food & drinks there.

Señor Iguanas is a great replacement though! (Though admittedly I'd never tried Don Juan's)

Ugh, that sucks. I thought they were the best Mexican in Kentucky. There is no clear replacement for them. Best meats, great homemade tortillas, fresh squeezed juices in the drinks, good price point. That is a real shame.

If the replacement Senor Iguanas is anything like the one near Hurstbourne / Shelbyville intersection, I'd beg to differ MarieP. That place, on one or two visits, struck me as the same old same old dumbed-down, non-authentic, gringo Mexican food. There are plenty of Nopals, Sols, Aztecas, Tarascoes, etc. and unless the Senor Iguanas retains the same carnitas and fresh drinks recipe, in my humble opinion, it will be just like the others...not worth eating. Interestingly, though, it's apparently the same family. Perhaps they found that Anglo-Mex makes the numbers work in Louisvile better than real Mex? One might hope that they come up with a formula for the Don Juan location that's a little more authentic, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

The Senor Iguanas in J-Town is the best of them all, although I rarely get out that way anymore. They have the best carne asada and refried beans I've ever had. I'd happily make a meal on just their beans...this from someone who doesn't really even care for refried beans!
