Atomic Café, a fixture in Lexington dining since 1992, has closed.

That's sad to hear. I was a frequent patron when I lived in Lexington. In fact, it was the site of the first date with my wife. The conch fritters were pretty tasty.

My cousin did the mural work at the Atomic Cafe. He was rather heartbroken to hear it had closed. I hope the future tenants keep the mural. They'll probably have no idea he's working out in Hollywood now and just wrapped up an incredible art project at the renovated Clifton's. .

I'll provide a few links with pictures, if I may?

My cousin's name pops up in the LA Times article. His last name is the same as mine. He was rather limited in his ability to discuss the project until the press releases started coming out. Grand opening is still about a week out.

He really did some fantastic work, that restaurant looks great! I have to laugh however because when I saw you talking about Clifton's I am really thought about the Clifton's pizza place here in Louisville on Frankfort Avenue and wondered what kind of remodeling they were doing.

Indeed you may! Beautiful! Thanks for sharing, Terri.

Hey, you guys aren't related to Bill Beam, are you? Bill (not a member of the Jim Beam family, although he actually worked there recently) has been in the local hospitality business for quite a while.

PS, Terri, I thought the same thing as Mark: Clifton's Pizza on Frankfort Avenue! Funny thing is that I've lived in LA (many years ago) and actually know of and have eaten at Clifton's.

I don't think so, but I could be wrong. My cousin and I are descended from the whiskey Beams. My grandfather was one of 7 sons who were all Master Distillers. My Dad's generation abandoned the family tradition for some reason, but I have 2nd, 3rd, and who knows what cousins in almost every distillery in the area. Unfortunately, I'm too far removed to have benefited financially from the "family tradition." :P
