The Table- Portland

by GriffinPaulin » Thu Sep 03, 2015 2:37 pm

Just left a menu tasting at The Table, which is on 18th and Portland. It's a "pay what you can" place, and a pretty cool concept.

The options:
Pay Full Price
Pay a Little Extra
Pay a Little Less
Work off your food

The food was really good. Easily on par with most lunch spots in town. Nothing pretentious or fancy, just well executed. The space is a little bit strange, there is an open kitchen, but its a home kitchen. I think for their purposes, this should serve fine. They are planning to open (i believe) November 4th, i would suggest everybody go check them out- volunteer if you want, i know i will dedicate some of my time to doing so. It's really important to Portland to have something like this, that can help revitalize the area in a positive manner.

Nope, The Table of Plenty is monthly meal, they do really good work.

The Table will be a daily service restaurant run by The Church of the Promise. They will locally source as much as possible, and hope to provide training and jobs for the neighborhood in a pay-what-you-can concept. We are really looking forward to it. They are using neighborhood help in the build out and the tables are being made from recycled wood from buildings in Portland. Contact Kathy Stoess through the FB page or website, she will be happy to provide more information.

Can you please clarify whether "run by the Church of the Promise" means that the Church of the Promise receives any % of any profits that may or may not end up being generated?

They are pretty adamant about it being non profit.

^^^What Griffin said. It is a non-profit to bring a dining option to Portland. I don't know if is actually part of the church or the Promise Center, that is at that building. I know those folks and NO proselytizing is involved.
