Wings

Who's doing good buffalo wings around town other than Rumors? Wings are one of my favorite foods but I have a hard time finding any decent ones out and about. There was an old seedy bar near the house I grew up at on St Andrews Church road called Jokers that did some really great basic "franks and butter" wings but they haven't been around in about 5 years unfortunately.

Steve P always speaks well of Rootie's, out Westport a bit past the Ford Truck Plant ...

For "buffalo" and similar wings, I recommend "Wing Stop" on Hurstbourne Lane.

For best overall wing in Louisville, I gotta give it to the smoked wings at Moma's (pickles, mustard, and BBQ) in St. Matthews.

When your wife likes the wings at Hooters, you don't argue.

Cumberland Brewing for jerk wings.

DiOrios Pizza has solid buffalo wings.

Coal's Pizza for oven roasted wings, both Italian and buffalo.

The Back Door has some of the best buffalo wings I've found, and they're pretty reasonable in price. Seedy dive bar, fried wings, franks-n-butter type sauce, just like you said.

I'll put in another plug for Momma's as having the best non-buffalo wings I've ever had.

I love Coals and won't say no to their wings, but a proper buffalo wing should be fried, not oven roasted.

For non-fancy buffalo style wings I'm liking Cunningham's on River Rd. (though I'm likely biased because it's super convenient for me). They're always the right amount of crispy.

If you want to try some really awesome wings that are really different have Mark over at SmokeHawgs BBQ cook you a batch. I ordered like 60 for a party I was having...they were freaking incredible. He uses like a smokey sriracha based sauce and they have a serious kick. They are also large and juicy. Highly recommended. I would easily put them up against Rooties or Mommas.

Spring St is a very underrated/great place for Wings, some of the best in town imo.

Have not tried SmokeHawgs, but Rooties (out Westport past the Ford plant) is WONDERFUL. He's from Buffalo, was on tv a lot promoting Buffalo wings back in the day, and however ended up in Louisville. While I think his hot wings are the best in town, his BBQ wings are even better!

BTW, I also like Rumors, but they are very different - much smaller, different style. Not better or worse, just different. One of our favorite things to do is to hit Rumors for a dozen or so oysters and an order of wings!

Doc Crows are very juicy and flavorful. My go to is at Cumebrland Brews. I get them with the jerk sauce. Always amazing.

Wing prices have risen 63 percent in this year compared to the same time in 2014, according to Denver-based food purchasing cooperative SpenDifference. The high prices are coming at a time when chicken prices should be easing thanks to increases in supply and decreases in the price of corn.
