Dog Friendly Restaurants?

by StaceyBreckel » Sat Aug 15, 2015 3:33 pm

My friends and I run dogs in agility and often after classes or shows we go out to lunch/dinner and have dogs with us. This past Thursday we discovered Boombozz Taphouse in the highlands is dog friendly on their patio and even have water bowls. It got me wondering- are there any other restaurants who would be willing to have well behaved, well trained dogs on the patio? It would be nice to find more places like Boombozz who would be willing to accommodate us to go to after we work our dogs (competition dogs who travel nationally and are better behaved than most children).
Weekly classes are in buechel so it is easy to go to places in okolona, the highlands, and fern valley. As for local shows, there are a few off of Mellwood Avenue, and some in Lagrange.

Too many places to mention in the Highlands. We've taken our dog to Mark's, River City Drafthouse, Za's, Highland Morning....

Interesting discussion, does anybody know what the Metro Louisville health codes say about allowing animals into restaurants? Obviously they have to allow service animals but what about others? As stated by the OP I'm sure there's no problem with them in courtyards, patios etc. but I'm wondering about inside of the buildings.

I'm pretty certain they aren't allowed actually inside of restaurants, and I'm okay with that. All I'd like to find are some who are okay with us coming and sitting out on the patio :)
I'm sure there are plenty of people reading this who would really rather the dogs be taken home before going out to eat, but we train in buechel, and I live in Shepherdsville, my one friend lives in Smithfield, another in Shelbyville, and the other in Memphis IN... so not at all practical. If we're going out to eat, either we have to find somewhere that is dog friendly outdoors, or otherwise they stay in the car with with AC left running. With how life gets in the way, time after agility class or agility trials is often the only time we have to go out to lunch or dinner together.

The Health Department does not allow dogs inside restaurants. Heine Bros had to stop permitting that under order from an inspector. Looking at European standards, this is probably ignorant, but it's the law. Not relevant to the original poster's question, though. :)

Our advanced training class goes out fairly often too, we've found the east end patios at Selenas, Ghyslain, Papalinos, and Comfy Cow to be very welcoming to well behaved canines and their escorts. Oh, and don't forget Vines and Canines! Because they do not serve food you can bring your dog inside with you, have a nice glass of wine and you are welcome to bring in your own food. We've actually ordered pizza to be delivered there to us. A nice glass of wine, pizza and dogs in the air conditioning is a very good thing!

We took our dog to Zeggz for brunch a few weeks ago, and they were very accommodating. Pretty much anywhere in the Highlands that has outdoor seating allows dogs, and many have bowls of water readily available. BBC in St. Matthews welcomes them, and at one point they even had a doggy food menu to order from.

We ate outside at Majid's the other night, and couldn't help noticing a woman with two very sweet little doggies (Westies or something similar) at her table. All the servers (and Majid, too) were delighted, and ran to get them water and little doggie bowls.

Majid's appears to have a no-smoking patio, another good thing. I'll frequently avoid patio dining even on beautiful evenings because of smoke, but it seems that more and more good spots are taking the no-smoking rule all the way to the front gate.
