Food trucks invading Kroger?

by Mark R. » Fri Aug 07, 2015 11:07 am

Not quite but almost. According to this article published in Insider Louisville this morning several of the local Kroger stores now have food carts from some of the local food trucks set up semi-permanently in the stores. http://insiderlouisville.com/business/k ... es-stores/

Pretty cool. Though the comment from Kroger about their selling the best fried chicken in the city is one of the better jokes I've read lately.

We're having a blast out in Middletown. It's a really fun program. We are hoping to be able to set up in other Krogers as well.

Sadly, I don't think we get a say. I would be in every one were it up to me! :D

I'm pleased to see that Kroger is incorporating much of the Harris Teeter model into their stores.

As far as the "Food Truck" thing goes, I noticed a couple of freestanding kiosks near the deli section at the Prospect Kroger last week. I can't recall the names of the outfits and I didn't avail myself of their wares but I do recall thinking to myself that the design and presentation could use some improvement. Hopefully it's a work in progress.

Following up. I had a gyro from Zoom Zoom not an hour ago for lunch. Very tasty and for only $7. A great lunch option if you are shopping and want something different.

That is great to know as they will be at the Portland Art & Heritage Fair this Saturday.

The Kroger in the Highlands has a BBQ pork vendor in there (can't remember the name) whose stuff is pretty tasty. Wouldn't likely have tried it, but they were handing out samples. Looks like nothing over $8.

The Highlands Kroger was offering Cuban sandwiches for sale from Havana Rumba as soon as I walked in the main entrance, right in front of flowers and cheese. I'll bet Valu Market (just a few miles away) is none too happy about that. The Highlands Kroger doesn't make sandwiches to order so I don't know if anyone would think to go there for a sandwich.

It seems likely Middletown Kroger has lost its 2 indoor food trucks. They used to have a J Gumbo's and another one and had hot dogs. There's nothing left of the hot dog one and the J Gumbo's one still has equipment but we haven't seen it opened in a couple of weeks. Hopefully things will get back on track there soon.
