"Hot Chicken" - everything you ever wished to know

by TP Lowe » Wed Jul 22, 2015 8:20 am

"I hate it when people date everything Southern back to the Civil War. But in this case, that’s where my story starts. That is when Nashville became a segregated city, a place where there were white neighborhoods and black neighborhoods and very little shared public space." continued...

That was a great read! Thanks for posting it! As for Hot Chicken, I had never had it until Saturday night at Manny and Merle's before the Bats game. Is it authentic? I have no idea. What I do know is that it is messy, as the writer said moist and crispy, and absolutely delicious. Unlike any chicken I have ever had before. I got the middle level on heat being a first timer. Full of flavor. Next time I will try the hottest. I look forward to eating more of this, and now thanks to the article, each time I do I will appreciate the history of the dish!

I love it when food, history and culture collide. Thanks, TP!

The Bitter Southerner is a site I visit regularly. Always a good read.
