CJ sneaks online early again: 4 stars for Harvest

by Robin Garr » Wed Jul 15, 2015 3:44 pm

Of course the CJ has a perfect right to publish whenever it wants to. I can't help but notice how they've been consistently putting up the restaurant review a day before the print edition, though, a move which gets them on the street about the same time as HotBytes and LEO. Coincidence or some weird idea of search-engine optimization? Who knows.

Anyway, with the Tweet "Harvest is understated, complex and wonderfully willful," whatever that means, the reviewer finds no flaws:

I guess this is as close to a flaw as it gets.

Hmm. If I were grading that paper, I'd mark it down for ambiguity. The livers were small, and that got her attention. But was the portion size too small? That would be a critical issue. Or did the mini-livers simply amuse her? That wouldn't.

I can't really tell. Can you?

Robin, I wouldn't read too much into the "published the day before print" issue. I still subscribe to the print edition and also check their website a couple times a day. Many, if not most, stories that do not involve "breaking" news appear on the web a day (or sometimes two days) before they appear in print. That applies to non-time-sensitive sports stories, general features, and non-breaking local "news."

Oh, I'm sure you're right, Mike. That's why I framed it as a curious question. :)

That said, though, I notice that this Wednesday review rollout started only a few weeks ago, but has been consistent since, so it is a new thing. Whatever ... and thanks!

Maybe she just wanted a way to include "pygmy chickens". Whimsy.
