Problem with Restaurants.com certificates

by Deb Hall » Fri Dec 28, 2007 10:45 pm

Like several other posters I have used the certificates several places in the past , and really like them. However, I just purchased a number of certificates, and in printing them the terms of use/ minimum on the certificates are SIGNIFICANTLY different than the terms showing up on the restaurant/purchase page you are shown when selecting your certificates.

For example, the Carly Rae's terms on the selection page state: "Valid with a minimum purchase of 2 entrees & 1 appetizer. Excludes alcohol, tax & tips". But the statement on my purchased $75 certificate is: "Valid with minimum purchase of $150" ! ! The same concept is true of my certificate to Rock Wall Bistro.

Needless to say, I'm a bit upset at this lack of truth in advertising. I'm sure this is a restaurant.com issue, not a local restaurant issue. But I would not have purchased these particular certificates if the terms on the certificate were as printed: I'm not sure that my family of 3 plus toddler could even spend $150 at Carly's Raes (which I know is reasonably priced) if we tried.

Just wanted to put out a warning to others until this gets fixed.

I bought several of these as well, so I went back to check. I think the problem is that the page opens with the smaller denominations of gift certificates shown. When you click on the larger denominations, the different requirements DO show up before you purchase. It is a bit confusing, but it's clearly stated as soon as you click on the different amounts. Hope that helps!

If you check the section for the potential restaurant clients, it seems to me that the restaurant sets some of the terms. I checked on the Carly Rae's and indeed the first thing that shows up is the terms for the $25 certificate, if the other denominations are checked, those terms come up. It is confusing. perhaps a suggestion to them regarding the way it is set up is in order. Have you tried to call customer service? I had a problem with some gifts not showing up on my account for printout and they were very helpfull. You may be able to exchange it for a combination of lower denominations.
