Oldham KY Tourism to Host Kentucky Farm Fest
Kentucky Goods & Experts to be featured at the Annual Event

Oldham KY Tourism & Conventions will host Kentucky Farm Fest, the only festival of its kind in Kentucky, July 11-12, 2015, at “The Maples,” a 20-acre farm in Crestwood, KY. The family-friendly educational festival, held in conjunction with the Kentucky Department of Agriculture and Kentucky Proud®, will celebrate all things Kentucky agriculture including fresh farm goods from producers and growers around the state.

In addition to sampling Kentucky foods, the festival will offer: hourly cooking demos with celebrity chefs, more than a hundred “how-to” workshops taught by Kentucky agriculture experts and gardeners, six bluegrass bands, large hands-on exhibits, Kentucky artisans and a book store with Kentucky author signings.

“Whether you’re a foodie, an organic gardener, a modern homesteader or a music lover, Kentucky Farm Fest has something for everyone to enjoy,” said Kim Buckler, executive director of Oldham KY Tourism & Conventions. “We’re excited to showcase the best Kentucky has to offer over the course of the two days and we’re proud that Oldham County, The Farm Tour Capital of Kentucky, is the backdrop for such an important fun, educational event.”

Festival activities will include cooking demos by celebrity chef Mark Williams, executive chef at Brown-Forman, who will talk about cooking with bourbon and offer grilling tips, and Tim Farmer, host of “Kentucky Afield” and “Tim Farmer’s Country Kitchen,” who will discuss cooking with alternative meats such as goat and alpaca. Guests will be able to enjoy food from the Food Truck “garden” and purchase Kentucky made products from the on-site Farm & Foodie market, as well as the juried Kentucky artisan show.

Several Kentucky bands will provide entertainment including: Barefoot Best Friends, Hog Operation, Hot Brown Smackdown, Whiskey Bent Valley Boys, and The Moonlight Peddlers. In addition to live music, attendees will have the chance to hear from Kentucky authors like Tavia Cathcart, Walt Reichert, Tim Farmer, Bill Best, and Pat Harrigan as they present “how-to” workshops and sign books. Farm Fest will also host large hands-on exhibits ranging from Ballyhoo Sheep Farm’s demo of sheep shearing, spinning wool, and felting to a demo on homemade soy lip balm.

Children can enjoy free pony rides on Saturday, take part in Jr. Chef Competition Workshops, and hear from local children’s authors like Ellen Troutman, author of “Tails of Windy Meadows.” They can also participate in hands-on exhibits such as a live ATV rescue with a helicopter, made possible by the Department of Agriculture’s Farm Safety department.

Tickets for the event can be purchased on-site for $5 and include all-day admission, free eco-shopping bag and water bottle refills. Children 12 and under will receive free entry into the Festival and Kids’ Fun Area. For the full line up of activities visit: www.kyfarmfest.com
