Jarfi's to move out of Kentucky Center next month

by Robin Garr » Fri Dec 28, 2007 4:34 pm

Jarfi's Bistro will move its restaurant and catering operation out of the Kentucky Center for the arts at the end of January, after the run of Phantom of the Opera is complete, retaurateur Jeff Jarfi said today.

Jarfi said the catering operation, which has many downtown clients, will move initially into the former Big Hopp's location at 800 W. Market St., then in 2009 is committed to move into the new building now under construction on the south side of Market Street across from Glassworks.

Jarfi said he plans to reopen his restaurant in a new location "within a few months," but can't discuss specifics at this time as both locations he's considering - one on Bardstown Road, one in the Hurstbourne area - are both currently occupied by other restaurants.

Jarfi's at Mellwood, in the Mellwood Arts and Entertainment Center, will remain open and will not be affected by the moves.

Jarfi said he is happy to have been in the Kentucky Center and enjoys a good relationship with its staff, but after five years in that location, he feels it's time to move.

Bet the Kentucky Center folks wish they hadn't booted the Bristol out to make room for Kentucky Cove.

Not sure but I think that since that is a state building the restaurant space has to go to bid every so often. Something I heard years ago.

We have reservations to eat there on New Year's Eve. Any recommendations on what to get?
