Rich O's with a baby - bad idea?

by Andrea E » Fri Dec 28, 2007 3:36 pm

I'm hoping Roger or someone in the know will see this and respond ASAP.

My sister is in town and wants to visit Rich O's tonight, as do I (never been). We are bringing several friends with us as well - we'll probably have 7 adults.

Questions:

1) Will we need a reservation for the non-smoking area? We want food & drink, but I'm not sure when the rest of our party will be joining us. My sister, husband & I will get there between 6 and 7.

2) The second (and more contentious) question - I am a nursing mom of a 4-month old. Is it advisable to bring an infant to the Public House? I checked the website and I see that there are non-smoking rooms. He's a very mellow baby and I know he won't be a disturbance, but if it will be less than welcome or an extreme distraction to the other patrons, let me know now before I make the hike from La Grange.

Thanks!

I have seen many a person bring a young child into Rich O's. The whole front seating area is smoke free. Make sure you go into the Rich O's enterance (right side of the building) as opposed to the Sportstime Pizza side (left side of the building).

As the previous comment stated, avoid Sportstime and sit on the Richo's side in the front room. Its non-smoking.

I'm curious to know if you are successful in making a reservation. I have made several reservations in the past for large groups with success, but last time I called I was told they do not take reservations at all unless its for the new room addition. I hope Roger or someone else can clarify this for me.

the high demand for seating in RichO's can account for most of the problems with reservations there (there is no host/hostess) and many patrons stalk tables until they are clear

good luck on a friday,
the baby should be no problem
but it is not a "kid friendly" atmosphere
no toys, balloons, or distractions for them

worth the wait and the trip
but be patient

Thanks for the replies. Very accurate - the baby was indeed not a problem, he is a really laid back little dude. The other kids were wisely left at home. The only issue we had was getting a table, like Shawn said, patrons stalk the tables and when we sat down, we were told to please leave a table as our name wasn't next and then we saw someone else sneak in from the bar and sit. It wasn't a problem as eventually we did sit and it is a really casual place, but I could see some Type A people getting antsy in that situation.

Fantastic beer and pizza. I loved the Kasteel Rouge - very yummy.

Was the walk in cooler repaired when you were there? We went the other night and it had expired over the xmas break. I think it is supposed to be up and running by now. I was fine with the "warmer" beer, but my friends - not so much.

Sorry I missed this. The past few days have been crazy.

The walk-in is fixed; back to normal.

As for reservations ... well, it's something we're trying to figure out, and perhaps I'll post again when it is clarified. Contrary to popular opinion, I'm not the absolute tsar, and sometimes we, er, differ on policies.

I don't have a clear answer because there isn't one. I'll try to be more concise in a future posting.

As long as the baby doesn't try to order a Bud Lite, you should be okay.

Okay, that was pretty funny, Clay.

Just the image it inspired.....*snort*

I have GOT to get myself over to Rich O's, though. I'm afraid I'm guilty of "forgetting Indiana's there" syndrome. And we were really gonna go to the last beer tasting, too - I can't even remember what happened to stop us.

Hey - that'd be an easy NY Resolution to accomplish (visit Rich O's). I'll put it in the hopper.
