Stopped in today at this place, which occupies a cursed spot on Bardstown near Watterson Trail. My benchmarks for Mexican food are El Nopal and the Gordita trailer, with this place firmly on the Gordita trailer side. The tacos ($1.99) are the double-shell variety, although the tortillas had a fried quality vs. Gordita's steamed. Everything we had appeared to be made from scratch. The salsa was on the bland side, but the side of pintos I ordered were freshly made and topped with Cojita (I had to Google that). The $6.99 burrito was meal-sized on its own. I had the carnitas burrito, which came stuffed with beans, sour cream and guacamole with a side of Pico de Gallo. My wife's $8.99 chicken quesadilla featured grilled chicken breast and sides of rice and beans.
The rest of the menu was similar to Gordita's, with the addition of enchiladas, fajitas and a few other items ranging from $3.95-$12.99. I did see cactus on the menu as well. They also serve beer and margaritas.
The service was very friendly with a minimal language barrier. Apparently they're associated with a restaurant of the same name in Florence, Ky.. We've been talking about stopping in here for a few weeks; we said the same thing about the Cuban bakery that once occupied this spot but it closed before we got around to it. We've been living in Fern Creek for nine years and I think this is the fourth place to open in this spot during that time. I hope these guys make it.
