Mojitos Dinner Tongiht

by Hilary N. » Thu Dec 27, 2007 5:40 pm

In lieu of a Christmas gift, some high school friends and myself treat ourselves to a fun dinner. This year we have chosen Mojitos. Anything we shouldn't miss? What are your favorites?

I'm a steak and potatoes gal - could you guess?

I'll give you my two favorite items:
The Boniato Frito which are sweet potato fries with smoked honey. The flavor from the smoked honey makes them unforgettable.
Tabla de Chimichurri which is grilled skirt steak served with green chimichurri (the menu I'm looking at says it comes with papitas fritas but I think we ordered this as a tapas and I don't recall the papitas fritas).

But there is so much that is great there. I recommend being adventurous. You can order up Paella Valenciana for two (unless there will be six or more of you). It takes 30 - 45 minutes to cook, giving you plenty of time to try all kinds of other stuff. Plus, the amount of Paella that you get is way more than for just two (or maybe it's because we ate so many tapas first :D ).

I think you and your friends made an excellent choice for dinner. Enjoy!

We had NYE dinner with friends at Mojito. it was our first visit to the restaurant and we fell in love. I didn't know it was mostly tapas (other than the paella and sandwiches) but it didn't matter. everything was so delicious and we ate and ate and ate and sampled so many wonderful dishes from garlic shrimp just like at havana rumba to duck ropa vieja and the aforementioned sweet potato fries with the smoked honey dipping sauce...there were four of us and we ordered something like 15 tapas plates and three desserts. and lots of mojitos.

it was fabulous. what a great restaurant! we'll definitely go back. I have to try that paella.

our server was so nice and didn't rush us a bit even though it was NYE. there were a few empty tables from about 8 p.m. on, so we didn't feel guilty sitting there and continuing to sample everything and getting more drinks and desserts. if it had been busy with a wait, we would have picked up the pace but as it was, we spent 2-1/2 hours there and had a wonderful time.

We were there on December 30th..

Duck Ropa Vieja, Queso Fundio, Shrimp, Empanadas, and Calamari

....but my favorite was the Pork Carnitas Tacos. Yes, it's just tacos, but maybe the best-tasting I've ever had. Damn, they are good beyond belief.

Had everything on the menu, and never been disappointed once. Just a great & fun place to eat.

Don't skip the Goat Cheese Flan for dessert!

Also one of our favs. The staff has been very accomodating in the past, making dishes for a vegan family member. Everything each of us has ever had there has been excellent and the service wonderful.
