Places showing the Mayweather-Pacquiao bout?

by Jeff Cavanaugh » Wed Apr 29, 2015 8:55 pm

Anyone know of bars or restaurants that will be showing the Mayweather-Pacquiao boxing match on Saturday evening?

I don't know if all locations are showing it, but Hooters on Preston is.

I feel bad for everyone that spent money on that pillow-fight.

Why? They paid for pillow fluff hyperbole and got it. What was that P.T. Barnum adage again? The real suckers will pay even more for a rematch.

I don't don't care for his out-of-the-ring antics at all, but from a technical, boxing standpoint, Floyd once again showed excellent movement, technique and timing and exhibited once again why he is one of the greatest boxers of all time. Those looking for a slugfest will always be disappointed by a Mayweather fight, but he is technically superior and always puts on a display for anybody who appreciates the sport as more than a streetfight.

For the record, I'm not a huge boxing fan myself, but am tired of the long history of the online foodie community smearing fighters.

Sorry, Robin, I was being facetious, as I thought this particular forum a silly medium for discussing boxing.

However, one thing I will note, looking back at my own post... I don't know that the repeated physical abuse of women should be described as "antics". Definitely a great boxer, unarguably a dick.

This was an off-handed comment. Bars and Restaurants were charged via their seating capacity to view this fight. 3-4k in some instances that I know of. An exciting fight increases beverage revenue and makes it worth the while. A snore-fest does nothing but make staff stay late.

When the crowd 'Boo-ed' at the end, they weren't upset with Mayweather's personal life- they were ticked to have lost 300k on the 'Fight of the Century.'

EDIT: This kind of sums it up:

Don't conflate this forum with every other discussion out there on the net. There is probably zero history here regarding boxers.

I have no comment on a typical fight that garners modest interest. But when a loser is guaranteed over $100 million for a single fight, SOMEONE is paying too much money. I refuse to even take part in such blatant, open extravagance.

That fight was a snooze fest. I heard some places had to pay 5k to show it. I suppose I would have done it for this one but no way for a rematch which you know will happen. As a sports fan in general I have ZERO interest in watching the rematch. This fight pretty much was the last nail in the coffin for boxing in my opinion.
