Another major publication recognizes Louisville

by Mark R. » Fri Apr 17, 2015 11:22 am

From today's insider Louisville:
Eat Up: Jetsetter believes it knows the “10 Best New Food Cities” in the world. And right there at No. 2, between Stockholm and Madrid: Louisville, Ky.

Here’s what they have to say:

Charleston who? In Kentucky’s budding metropolis, Victorian architecture meets craft beer, cocktails and cooking of the New Southern persuasion. Start with a local brew at the aptly named Louisville Beer Store, then try the southern fried chicken confit sandwich at the James Beard-nominated Harvest. Or head to 610 Magnolia for standout French-Southern fusion dishes (we love the pork belly with grilled Radicchio). There’s also rising star Annie Pettry’s, Decca, a restaurant-slash-bar with a fire pit and staff-curated book and record shop upstairs. Finally, satisfy your sweet tooth with a slice of organic flourless chocolate cake at Cake Flour bakery.

Here's the entire story which includes a lot of other nonfood discussion: http://insiderlouisville.com/metro/news-kentucky-derby-mcconnell-times-list-honors-louisville-lexington-jennifer-lawrence-immortalized-peanuts/

May as well add Fodor's article from last week on Louisville's hip neighborhoods. I found it to be a pretty decent piece.

They kind of lost me at "South Points," though ...

I also wondered about South Points while reading the article. While I fully admit to not being a Louisville original myself I've been here for quite a while and have never heard that phrase in reference to a part of the area! Of course I hadn't heard of NuLu either until a few years ago so who knows what comes next.

That's because NuLu was just invented a few years ago, bestowed by a rich developer. I didn't expect the dumb name to take hold, but I guess money and power talk.

The South Points business appears to be another attempt by the Mayor's office to rebrand certain areas i.e. Sofo. I still don't use NuLu to describe East Market Street.

And, just in time for Thunder, the NYTimes tries its hand . . .

So "South Points" is what, everything south of Old Louisville? Sorry, any "neighborhood" that encompasses both Churchill Downs and Jefferson Memorial Forest is not a neighborhood. You could fit all five of the other areas they mention inside that one.
